A retrospective analysis of 600 patients with vestibular schwannoma at Massachusetts Eye and Ear (Harvard Medical School) suggests a therapeutic role of aspirin in inhibiting tumor growth. The researchers point out that aspirin intake correlates with halted growth of acoustic neuromas, and so decided to start a prospective clinical trial to assess efficacy of the acetylsalicylic acid in preventing or halting these kind of intracranial tumors. At the moment, the results published on Oncology and Neurology by the team reveal a significant reverse association among aspirin users and vestibular schwannoma growth (odds ratio: 0.50, 95 percent confidence interval: 0.29-0.85).
